Bank transfer is not a fallback

In Indonesia it is often the main way people pay. Treating it as the option at the bottom of the list is a design decision with a cost attached.

Plenty of checkout designs put cards first, wallets second, and bank transfer last, under a heading like Other methods. Then the shop opens and most of the money arrives by transfer.

The list order was copied from somewhere the habits are different. It is worth building for the habits you actually have.

Transfer has a shape of its own

A card payment is one moment: it succeeds or it fails, and the customer knows before they leave. A transfer is a conversation over hours. The order exists, the money does not, and something has to hold that state without either cancelling too early or promising too much.

That means an order status the whole business understands — awaiting payment, declared, confirmed — plus a real answer to what happens when a customer pays a day later, pays the wrong amount, or pays and never tells you.

It also means somebody, somewhere, is comparing a bank statement with a list of orders. Whether that is a person or an integration, it is part of the system and deserves a screen. Shops that leave it out end up doing reconciliation in a spreadsheet next to the admin panel, which is where mistakes live.

Give the customer something to hold

The most common complaint about transfer checkouts is not the waiting. It is the silence.

A customer who has just sent money to an account number wants to know it arrived. A page that shows the amount to send, the reference to include, a way to say I have paid, and then a visible status that changes when someone confirms it, removes almost all of the follow-up messages a shop would otherwise answer by hand.

Uploading a receipt is worth having even when the shop reconciles automatically, because it gives the anxious customer something to do that is not messaging you.

Do not confirm on the customer’s word

The one rule that matters: a customer declaring payment must never move money in your records. It creates a pending claim; a person or a verified feed confirms it against the bank.

That is not distrust. It is that a confirmation is a fact about a bank account, and the only things that can assert it are the bank and whoever is reading it.
